The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
This film has already attracted a lot of attention at Deadline, where Awards Columnist Pete Hammond said in this week’s Deadline Awards Watch podcast that it will likely elbow aside one of the other worthy contenders in the race for Best Picture, and carve out space for both Leo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in the Oscar acting categories.
Our new film editor, Anita Busch, meanwhile, has tweeted (she’s @DeadlineAnita) that the film is the essence of excess and a misogynist mess that should never have gotten only an R rating.
Somewhere in between, I’m guessing, is where most audiences will land. At roughly 3 hours in length, and with that over-the-top storytelling, it won’t be for everyone, no doubt. If you see it, let us know what you think.
